What is Keyfree?

Keyfree, the keyless composite door lock from Yale is exclusively available to all our customers.

It's the first lock from Yale that allows you to access your home using a personalised PIN code or remote fob. Every single feature has been designed to make life easier - and maintain your security.

Inside or out, Yale Keyfree puts you in control. Leaving the house or coming home.

The lock automatically latches every single time, keeping your home completely secure. When you do want to go out, all you have to do is turn the handle to unlock your door.

You could call that smart. We call it simple - the easy answer to exceptional home security.

Every feature of the Keyfree electronic lock has Yale's specialist security knowledge built in.

Not only will the lock's 80-decibel alarm sound if the handle detects vandalism or damage, but the system is an independently powered unit. So there are no wires, no complicated set up - and no need to call an electrician.

And even without power, you have two fail-safe entry methods; a 9V battery port and a mechanical cylinder.

Q1. Will any Keyfree remote control keyfob work with my door?

A1. On installation, you will synchronise the keyfob with your door. The keyfobs are blank when you receive them and, once paired, will only work with your lock. There is no worry of another Keyfree user accessing your home.

Q2. What if I lose my remote control keyfob?

A2. The system is supplied with 2 keyfobs and if you lose your keyfob, simply contact Yale via the Keyfree website www.yalekeyfree.co.uk. Here, you can order new, blank keyfobs, which will then need to be synchronised to your door. The user guide explains how to do this. You can buy up to four keyfobs for your family.

Q3. Does Keyfree need to be hardwired?

A3. No, it is a stand-alone unit, operated by four AA batteries, therefore you don’t have to worry about electrical connections.

Q4. I’m worried Keyfree is too complicated. Is it really that straightforward?

A4. Keyfree does include a lot of features, but they are all very easy to use, no matter how ‘technology savvy’ you are. All features have been designed to make your life easier, not to make it more difficult. A user guide will also be given to you upon completion of installation.

Q5. Can I add extra security to Keyfree?

A5. Keyfree is designed to be secure and has the Secured by Design recognition, a UK police initiative for safer homes.

Some homeowners may also wish to add a door chain or letterbox protector, both of which are readily available through your professional door installer.

One feature of the Keyfree lock is that it does not ‘deadlock’ from the inside, in other words the door can be opened from the inside at any time by pressing the handle. This provides for a swift exit from the property in the event of fire or other emergency.

Q6. How long does the battery last?

A6. The battery will last for 1 year based on 20 cycles a day. A light will flash on the door lock to warn users when the battery is running low.

Q7. Are there any safety and security issues I need to be aware of?

A7. Yale Keyfree is designed to be secure and has Secured by Design recognition. One feature of the Keyfree lock is that it does not deadlock from the inside. This is a deliberate design feature and provides for a swift exit from the property in the event of fire or other emergency.

Q8. Are there child safety features built-in to the lock?

A8. As the door can be opened from the inside at any time, Keyfree can be easily programmed with a “child safety mode”, whereby the door alarm will sound if anyone presses the handle from the inside, alerting you to any risk.

Q9. Do I have to use the keyfob or keypad every time I go in and out of the door?

A9. You can open the door from the inside at any time. To save having to use the keyfob or keypad to continuously open the door, for example when you are unloading shopping from a car, it is easy to programme Keyfree with a “safe passage” mode, so you can go in and out easily and then quickly re-set Keyfree to its normal settings when you are finished.
